DR ALEXANDER KNIJNIKOV, D.O. is a board certified general surgeon. He is fellowship-trained in all aspects of bariatric (weight loss) surgery and advanced minimally invasive surgery. This includes both robotic and single incision surgery.


Dr. Knijnikov earned his medical degree in Long Island, graduating at the top of his class from New York College of Osteopathic Medicine. He was honored to be inducted into the Psi Sigma Alpha National Honor Society by being in the top 15% of his class. After completing his general surgery residency in New York City, where he served as Chief Surgical Resident, he pursued a highly competitive fellowship in Long Island. During this time at New York University Winthrop Hospital he trained under renowned surgeons in the newest minimally invasive techniques with a strong focus on robotic surgery. This encompassed not only the wide variety of bariatric procedures but also a large number of complicated bariatric revisional surgeries.


Well published and a presenter at numerous national surgical conferences, Dr. Knijnikov is an active member of both the national and local chapters of the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery. He is also a member of the American College of Surgeons as well as the American College of Osteopathic Surgeons. To advance his commitment and true appreciation of robotic surgery he is also a member of the Clinical Robotic Surgery Association. He attends and is active in several surgical conferences a year, many from the above societies. 


Dr Knijnikov specializes in all aspects of general surgery with an emphasis on bariatric and robotic surgery. He has a passion for battling obesity and its related medical conditions, and helping patients through their entire journey through his multi-disciplinary bariatric surgery program. Dr. Knijnikov firmly embraces robotic technology and the multitude of benefits it offers his patients. He offers robotic assisted surgeries such as single incision cholecystectomies and minimally invasive hernia repairs. Additionally, he is fluent in Russian as well as medical Spanish.


Educating patients and the public is an important aspect of Dr. Knijnikov's work. He has hosted several radio shows on both bariatric and robotic surgery as well as been sought for numerous print articles. Dr. Knijnikov was recently chosen as SJ Magazines Top Docs as well as been the recipient of patient choice award. 


Dr. Knijnikov lives with his wife and son in Southern New Jersey where he enjoys the beaches and biking in the summer and alpine skiing in the winter. He loves to spend time with his family and enjoys the cinema and a good novel by the fireplace.
